“Memories”

September 2023, hand-stitched mixed techniques including quilting and Palestinian tatreez (52cmx52cm)

While working on this piece, I remembered fragments from early childhood: prisms in the basement, wood paneled walls, the 1960 film “Pollyanna”, burning sunsets, and also some memories as an adult: wandering up and down the hills of Lisbon and Amman, swimming in the Gulf of Guinea, sitting on the sands of Jericho Beach in British Columbia… I also thought about how I am both an insider and an outsider, and this is my fate as a child of diaspora. Like a waking dream, my mind is processing and making sense of my reality.
